I’m making a present for my friend, only she can’t have it for a while because I’m making it for marketing purposes. Also, if I give it to her now then all my other friends will want one too, and that would mean making at least another two, maybe three. If any of my four friends actually read this, you will probably get a picture of yourself from me for Christmas… I was never very good at surprises…
So what have I been doing? Well, the pictures below, which I’m sure you’ve already noticed, should explain all. I apologise to Example Girl, but only a little bit because Peter the Painter thinks you’re a bit of a looker since seeing my picture of you!
The first picture is the drawing I’m working from. The second is the result of 4 hours sitting in the courtyard chatting and sewing and getting sun burnt despite trying to hide in the shade. The third is a close up of Example Girl’s right eye. I was going to fill in the gaps with red and purple but I actually quite like it zebra like, and I think I’ll get some blue cotton, coz that seems to work quite nicely too.
Anyways, there you have it. I’ll try to keep adding updates on the progress of this piece, along with updates on my soon-to-be sporadic tan. I’m still considering whether or not to put this on a tea cozy. Suggestions?

I really like this idea.
What makes a great artist? Time to think, choosing a craft and picking a subject and committing to it.
You seem slightly erratic in your work but you are without doubt very talented. Your work is all over the place and you seem to be without direction.
Try and create an English aesthetic. Look to ancient English woods for inspiration and follow the seasons as they do. Use the colours and shapes and become the picturemaker.
Take a look at bandstands, beach-huts, red telephone boxes and old post boxes. Look at Henley regatta, Ascot, Wimbledon and shape out what is quintessentially English. Look at English gardens, Pimms, Aston Martins, Gordon’s Gin and Schweppes Tonic and Saville Row suits and Jeaguar dresses.
You are a real talent just keep on drawing…you’ll soon find your way.

Look at English architecture from Foster and see what he is trying to say with his work. Look at the Eden project and Renzo Piano’s new Museum of Natural History over in San Francisco and see what he’s trying to say.
Listen to music and find the rhythm all these things should be absorbed and feature in your work. Construct your work as if an architectural blueprint use colour and lines to show the rhythm and pace yourself…be an artist for life and know your life will be at least 80 years and more…
The thinkers in our society are talking about participatory economics so why not create works that audiences have to participate in to echo these thoughts from the activists.
Check out Parecon by Michael Albert on YouTube…then listen to Chris Ofili talking about the Last Supper and how his works are works that need audience participation…..
